Gilding Courses London
The origins of the art of gilding date back to the Sumerians and the Egyptians
over 3,500 years ago. They discovered that gold could be beaten into thin
sheets and then applied to surfaces. Artists such as Giotto, Duccio and
Masaccio in their works of art furthered the process on gilding by using
gesso, and natural clays to seal and coat the wood. The process has changed
very little since and is still practised on a daily basis by the gilders
at Titian Studio very much as it was during the Renaissance.
We are keen to keep this ancient art form alive through our regular programme of foundation courses in gilding. Students are taught under the personal supervision of Rod Titian, whose experience ranges from various T.V. appearances, lecturing and writing the acclaimed book Gilding & Lacquering. These popular and fun one-day courses provide a stimulating and enjoyable insight into this ancient art form and provide the basis for students wishing to enter full time gilding. Courses are held at our spacious and airy London studios, where students will be able to see our current projects and benefit from learning in a working environment, as opposed to an inactive classroom setting.
