Kew Palace Sheraton Bed

Kew Palace Sheraton-style Bed

This sumptuous bed was commissioned by Historical Royal Palaces and is on permanent public view at Kew Palace. A faithful recreation of the original bed designed by Thomas Sheraton (active later half of the 18th century) that belonged to Princess Elisabeth, the favoured daughter of George III. Hand painted and decorated using period documentation.

Handmade using a beech frame that comprises the bed base, headboard, footboard and canopy work. The woodwork is finely decorated in the traditional colours of the Sheraton period, with a base colour and overlaid with decorative ornamentation. The domed head canopy has a swagged upholstered drapery, finished with bell tassels. The base features bolster cushions, a fringed front edge, again finishing off with smaller swags and festoonery.
