Lacquer and Japanning

Titian's have, over the years, restored, conserved and undertaken lacquer furniture conservation and restoration in all its forms and are proud to be always perfecting our skills on pieces ranging from ceremonial lacquer cabinets to Russian snuff boxes. Japanning, which derives from the European desire to emulate lacquer, is an art form in itself and today is looked upon with as much admiration as true lacquer.

We specialise in the fine restoration or conservation of quality lacquer pieces and the enhancement or upkeep of the most delicate japanned objects. The knowledge amassed over the years has enabled us to incorporate our skills to the interior side, where by the lacquering of walls and ceilings have become popular commissions. Also emulating Chinese wallpaper in the chinoiserie style, again mainly to walls, is becoming vogue.

As with our polishing techniques we now provide modern sprayed lacquered finishes that are hard wearing and often suit the modern style of clean, sharp, elegant lines.
